The Nigeria Police Council | Functions of Police (Nigeria)
The Nigeria Police Council was introduced by the 1989 Constitution. The body comprises the President (chairman), State Governors, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission and the Inspector-General of Police.
The functions of the Nigeria Police Council include the following:
- The organization and administration of the Nigeria Police excluding the operationai control of the police and establishment matters.
- The general supervision of the Nigeria Police.
- Advising the President on the appointment of the Inspector General of Police.
The functions of the Nigeria Police Council tend to overlap with those of the Ministry of Police Affairs which is responsible for the administration of the police.
