If you’ve tried online dating, it’s likely that you’ve used Tinder, the app that made it common practice to swipe right or left to express interest in a person.
Although you might use Tinder for a while, most people don’t intend to depend on the app indefinitely. You’ll likely eventually meet a match, start dating, and stop caring about other people’s likes and messages.
There are two ways to delete your Tinder dating profile if you’re ready to stop using it: You have the option to permanently delete your account or temporarily hide your profile from the app’s Discovery section.
How to hide your Tinder account temporarily
It is simple to hide your account from Tinder’s Discovery section to prevent potential matches from seeing your profile. Your account will continue to be active in this manner in case you decide to reactivate it in the future.
1. Start the Tinder app and tap your profile icon at the top left on iOS, and bottom right on Android.
2. On your profile page, tap Settings.
3. In the Discovery section, turn to Show me on Tinder off by swiping the button to the left.
You might still receive some messages even after you turn off discovery because anyone who has already matched you can still see your profile.
How to delete your Tinder account
You can permanently delete your account, which also deletes all matches and chats you’ve saved in the Tinder app if you’re certain you won’t want to use it or chat with any matches you’ve made on the app.
1. Start the Tinder app and tap your profile icon at the top left on iOS, and bottom right on Android.
2. On your profile page, tap Settings.
3. At the very bottom of the page, tap Delete Account.
4. On the Pause My Account page, you’ll be given the option to pause, rather than delete, your account. Tap Delete My Account.
5. Confirm you want to delete the account one more time. Tinder will also ask you why you are deleting your account, which you can answer or skip.
A quick tip: You should know that canceling your subscription does not happen automatically when you delete your account. If you are currently a member of one of Tinder’s premium plans, you can cancel your subscription by going to the location where you initially signed up (for example, through your Apple ID or the Google Play Store).
