Emergence of Nationalist Parties In Nigeria

The attempt to form Political Parties in West Africa before the First World War (1914 – 1918) did not succeed. However, the meeting of Nationalists in Accra, Ghana in 1920 under the aegis of the National Congress of British West Africa (NCBWA) and the promulgation of the Clifford Constitution of 1922 which introduced the elective principle set in motion process of party information.

The origin, organizational structure, leadership and support, objectives, source of revenue and performance of the parties which subsequently emerged are now discussed below.

Action Group (AG) | Political Party, Nigeria
